Mary Mihalovits Gasperik emigrated to Chicago from Hungary as a young woman. In 1933, she attended the World's Fair and fell in love with the quilts on display. Soon after attending the fair, Gasperik joined the Tuley Park Quilting Club and made six quilts in her first year of sewing. All of them, including Star Arcturus (1934) were inspired by the Century of Progress exhibits at the 1933 World's Fair. Her phenomenal work can be seen online at The Quilt Index.
