Thanks, everyone, for sending good thoughts about Buddy my way. I received a really nice email from his adoptive Mom and thought I would share it:
"Buddy is with us
and fitting right in. He may
be questioning the situation a bit---he watches me closely and
follows me every step...He has found his blankets, and his bed beside us -
slept there through the night and he is beside me now. Partner [her other dog] has
accepted him and even my (suspicious of all strangers) cats are
deciding he is ok. Buddy is a delight, we
are lucky to have him with us. --Barb"
I just find myself surprised from time-to-time that he's not in his usual spots. (I wonder how long it will take Barb to figure out that Buddy will always be following her every step.) I worked at my desk last night until 3 a.m. and that was the first time I thought of how he would have been right there, keeping me company, while Mike and the cats slept soundly. But I'm doing fine, mostly.
I actually think you are doing a very selfless thing by putting the daily well being of your dog before your own needs, it shows how much you really love him. Hang in there, channel your sadness into Buddy themed art.
