Anne Lemanski constructs her three dimensional sculpture from paper and thread.
For "Shirley", Lemanski embroidered vintage photos and stitched them together with artificial sinew.
"Fennec Fox (Dog Star)" is paper, ink, and artificial sinew.
"Deerfield, USA" is aerial imagery printed on paper, then stitched together. I love it. Very inspiring work for me.
I found Anne Lemanski's work via Lorraine Glessner.
That stuff is really cool. I like the fox because it reminds me of a coyote, which is a very important guide and spirit animal for american indian tribes. In one of the books I'm reading, Coyote is the shaman's spirit guide, and they travel into various otherworldly places together. I think my spirit animal is the cat (of course), followed by the owl. What's yours?
