I'm still stoked about the Engine 2 28-Day Challenge. I had a great day yesterday. I made myself a bowl of oatmeal with a splash of coconut water and cut up mango, kiwi, and blueberries. Then I brought it up to the art studio and painted for an hour before work.
I had a terrific day. In the office, I pushed paper like a mofo. At the end of the day, I felt happy and rested. The only thing missing were hugs. A serious lack of fur-free hugs going on but what can you do? Then late-night, I got an unexpected FB message from Tal Pal and that was awesome. I am looking forward to visiting Seattle and seeing both girls at college.
So since yesterday turned out so well, I couldn't wait to get up this morning and do it all again. Today, I made Isa Chandra Moskowitz' Lemon Cornmeal Pancakes. I put a little agave syrup in mine because I don't like the sour flavor of yogurt, and I added blueberries. I'm so glad I did. Blueberries and lemon zest together are like GOD ON A PLATE. When the blueberries got hot? They burst. No syrup needed. So delicious.
And then I worked on this Old Man again. He's slowly telling me who he is. I don't draw and I haven't ever been a figurative painter, so it always surprises me how definite these paintings are. I put something down and then I rework it until the face is satisfied. My thought about yesterday's painting vs. today is that they are two entirely different people.
Goache, watercolor, and ink on paper.
My other thought is that I couldn't be further from here, the place I wrote about last year. And that's the best part.
I've had my eye on the same pancake recipe and can't wait to make it with your suggestions of add blueberries. Yes--I know that lemon/blue flavor - YUM!
