One of my favorite lines in the film, The Hangover is when Stu tells his girlfriend Melissa, "You're...such a bad person! Like, all the way through to your core!"
There's a much longer buildup to all the reasons why Stu's scene is actually the best possible outcome for the relationship. In that moment, it was absolutely the right thing for him to do. And I think I sort of envy the fact that he said it out loud.
I wonder if anybody ever says that - and the words hit the other person in the face like icy water - and they wake up and think, "What? I thought I was fine. Is my perspective TOTALLY SCEWED? I have to THINK about that." Or if pretty much all the bad people who get told just think "Screw you, idiot." (sorry - language) And this: do we sit around making excuses for bad people? Is that the right thing to do? Or do we say, "You made your choices," and walk away. I kind of vote for the latter. It always seems to me that consequences are the best teacher -
